source:
On
the afternoon of Aug. 22, 2018, a 6-person expert delegation from the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), including Dr. Alecke and Dr Jens
HOFMANN (Counsellor for Science and Technology, Germany Embassy to China),
headed to the Beijing Tongzhou Bishui Underground WWTP to investigate the major
13th Five-Year scientific research project initiated by CWEG and entitled
“Innovation of Underground WWTP Construction and Demonstration of Ecological
Complex” - the subject of the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment
Science and Technology Major Project, known as “water special”. Professor Zuo
Jiane at the School of Environment of Tsinghua University and leaders from the
Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Department, Beijing Municipal Ecology
and Environment Department, and Beijing Municipal Water Authority, accompanied
the delegation during the investigation. Pang Hongtao, Deputy General Manager
of Beijing Technology R&D Center under CWEG, and R&D Engineer Li Peng,
introduced in detail the Bishui Underground WWTP, the research progress of the
13th Five-Year “water special” project, and the Sino-German cooperative
platform.
During
the investigation, the delegation was fully briefed on the WWTP’s construction
progress, operation plan and wastewater treatment processes, including sewage
& sludge treatment system, biological odor removal system, natural lighting
system and water-source heat pump (WSHP) technology. Thanks to CWEG’s
proprietary underground WWTP system featuring “eco-friendliness, low land
occupation and high resource utilization”, the WWTP can produce high-quality
effluent, achieve efficient energy recycling, and create significant
environmental and social benefits, receiving recognition from the delegation.
Initiated
by CWEG, the scope of study of the 13th Five-Year scientific research project
earned high praise from the delegation, who believed that this project will
provide impetus to forward-looking technological breakthrough and construction
model innovation in the wastewater treatment industry, and help regulate and
standardize the construction and operation of underground WWTPs. Meanwhile,
building the Bishui Underground WWTP into a green and low-carbon-emissions
urban ecological complex is also of great importance to the water environment
improvement and ecological civilization construction of Beijing’s sub-center
Tongzhou.
The
delegation was also briefed about the Sino-German Centre for Water And healTh
researCH (WATCH) as a Sino-German cooperation platform, including construction
progress and scope of study. As the transnational joint research laboratory
approved and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the
WATCH is jointly submitted by 11 institutions led by RWTH-Aachen University and
including Sichuan University and CWEG. Dr. Pang Hongtao and experts of the
Federal Ministry of Education and Research had in-depth exchanges on how to
facilitate extensive Sino-German cooperation.
